BASF Entering into Electrolyte Activities

(BASF, 5/30/2011) BASF is entering the business of electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries (LIB) and is forming a global electrolytes team in its Intermediates division for this purpose. By adding electrolytes to its existing portfolio for the LIB industry, BASF is able to offer another key component for the battery technology. Electrolytes are complex formulations that are essential for the transport of electronic charge inside batteries. High-quality electrolytes are prerequisites for improving the battery performance. BASF is already developing specific formulations for high-quality electrolytes based on organic carbonates for customers in the battery and automotive industries. (SABIC, April 27, 2011) Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), Asahi Kasei Chemicals Corporation and Mitsubishi Corporation signed a strategic Joint Venture (JV) Agreement today to form a limited liability company, Saudi Japanese Acrylonitrile Company (SHROUQ),  in Saudi Arabia. BASF Supports New Polymeric Flame Retardant

(BASF, April 5, 2011) BASF supports the announcement that Dow Chemical has signed a license agreement with Chemtura Corporation for the production of a new brominated polymeric flame retardant and that Chemtura plans to build a production facility for this substance. Dow aims to finalize agreements with other licensees by the end of 2011 to ensure sufficient volumes for the global market. Like other companies, BASF has also been investigating the use of this polymer, which Dow developed as a replacement for HBCD (hexabromocyclododecane).  Click here to read more…

New CDC Guidelines Recognize Value Of Split Septum IV Access Technology To Reduce Intravascular Catheter-Related Bloodstream Infections

(Becton Dickinson, April 4, 2011) – BD Medical, a segment of BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), announced today that new guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for healthcare workers and hospitals demonstrate that the technology used in the BD Q‑Syte™ Luer Access Split Septum catheter may help reduce intravascular catheter-related bloodstream infections. About 30,000 people a year die in the United States every year because of catheter-related bloodstream infections, according to the CDC.  The new guidelines state, “When needleless systems are used, a split septum valve may be preferred over some mechanical valves due to increased risk of infection with the mechanical valves.” Click here to read more…

 

BASF And Monsanto Take Dicamba Tolerant Cropping System Collaboration To The Next Level

(BASF, March 14, 2011) – BASF and Monsanto Company (NYSE: MON) today announced a new agreement to collaborate on the advancement of dicamba tolerant cropping systems. The companies have granted reciprocal licenses, and BASF has agreed to supply formulated dicamba herbicide products to Monsanto. The agreement will facilitate further development work and subsequent commercialization of a dicamba tolerant system, which includes innovative dicamba formulations proprietary to BASF and the dicamba tolerant trait for soybeans, which is proprietary to Monsanto.
