Hepatitis C Cooperative Research Centers (U19)— The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) invites applications for Hepatitis C Cooperative Research Centers (HepC CRCs). These Centers will advance the understanding of hepatitis C virus (HCV)-host interactions, specifically the host immune response to infection, and the factors that tilt the balance between spontaneous or therapy-induced clearance and chronic persistence of HCV. Experimental observations will be validated and clinical relevance demonstrated, in appropriate, well-defined, patient cohorts. The underlying mission of the Centers is to close the gaps that currently exist with regard to defining successful immune response and identifying new targets for antiviral drugs, vaccines, and other therapeutic strategies for the prevention or treatment of acute and chronic HCV infection. The NIAID expect(s) to award $4 million in total costs in response to this FOA, in FY 2010, to fund 4-5 new and/or renewal grants. Letters of Intent Receipt Date:  July 6, 2009. Application Receipt Date:  August 6, 2009.

Community Clinical Oncology Program (U10) This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) solicits applications from institutions/organizations that propose to contribute to the mission of the NCI-supported Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP) Network, which was established in 1983 to develop and conduct state-of-the-art cancer prevention, control, and treatment clinical trials with significant involvement of community oncologists and populations they serve. The CCOP Network mission includes: (1) accelerating development of interventions to prevent and treat cancer and its symptoms by increasing accrual to trials; (2) fostering quality care in the community through adoption of results from clinical trials; and (3) increasing the involvement of minority and underserved patient/participant populations in cancer clinical trials and associated research. The CCOP Network consists of two types of components, CCOP Groups (also referred to as CCOPs) and CCOP Research Bases. A CCOP Group encompasses community oncologists who accrue patients/participants to NCI-approved clinical trials. These trials are designed and conducted by the CCOP Research Bases, which also manage and analyze the data, and report the results. CCOP Research Bases must be located either at an NCI-supported Clinical Cooperative Group or at an NCI-designated Cancer Center. Current Closing Date for Applications: Jul 08, 2009     The NCI intends to commit up to $21.2 million in total costs in FY 2010 to fund approximately 21 CCOP Group and/or Research Base awards. Letters of Intent Receipt Date: June 8, 2009/Application Receipt Date: July 8, 2009.

Non-Invasive Methods for Diagnosis and Progression of Diabetes, Kidney, Urological, Hematological and Digestive Diseases and Hypertensive Disorders (R01)– This FOA is a call for the application of imaging and other non- or minimally-invasive technologies to detect, characterize, diagnose, identify persons with predisposition to, or monitor treatment of diseases of interest to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Also needed are new, robust surrogate markers for clinical trial endpoints, and new ways to characterize normal and pathological tissues in vivo.  Diseases of interest include type 1 and 2 diabetes; acute and chronic kidney disease, liver, urologic, hematologic, digestive, endocrine, and metabolic diseases and their complications; obesity; obesity-related hypertension, hypertension, renal and vascular disorders leading to hypertension. Applicable techniques include molecular imaging and functional imaging approaches, imaging methods with high spatial, chemical or time resolution, metabolomics, proteomics, genomics, or new spectroscopic or sensor array technologies for monitoring metabolic or physiological events. Application Due Date(s):  Standard dates apply, please see http://grants1.nih.gov/grants/funding/submissionschedule.htm
