ITECS Assists Ohio State University in Winning Grant Funding

October 29, 2008 by admin

(ITECS Press Release) New Smyrna Beach, FL – Two awards totaling over $28M of the $143M plus awarded to collaborative efforts between the University System of OH schools, private universities and industry partners in Ohio were awarded to Ohio State University with the help of ITECS (www.itecs-innovative.com), a consulting firm that helps universities, non-profits and businesses capture and manage funds.  These projects are expected to stimulate research in areas of importance to Ohio’s economy such as advanced materials, bio imaging, spinal implants, photovoltaics, and power and propulsion. The anticipated $28M plus in grant funding ITECS helped the Ohio State University capture was for the following projects:

The Ohio State University, leading a partnership with the University of Akron, and University of Dayton, were recommended for $18,153,846 in funding to expand a research cluster to pioneer revolutionary approaches to materials development, leveraging the materials science strengths of the universities. The cluster’s goal is to accelerate materials innovation and commercialization by evaluating emergent materials at an early stage through predictive modeling and characterization. The Ohio State University was recommended to receive two endowed positions, University of Akron to receive one position, and University of Dayton to receive one.

The Ohio State University Research Foundation, leading a partnership with Ohio University, Case Western Reserve University, and University of Toledo were recommended for $10,476,924 in funding to establish a collaborative cluster in Advanced Energy Systems. The Ohio State University and Ohio University will each receive one endowed Research Scholar position.

“There has been a strategic shift during the last few years to focus this funding on large multi-discipline, multi-university awards and a movement to justify these awards by having a firm work with a university or center to commercialize a path to economic development,” said Susan K. Ward, PhD, Founder and President of ITECS. “Professors are extremely talented in capturing individual awards, but they may be challenged in developing a proposal that clearly differentiates their proposal from the competition. “

Using a proprietary process developed and customized for universities and nonprofits, ITECS developed an overall strategic approach to create a winning proposal. They employed a customized team of experts to coordinate the complex proposal writing team, writing the proposal that included a unique approach to differentiate the proposal from the crowded field of competition.

The National Science Foundation, the State of Ohio, and the Board of Regents for the State of Ohio evaluated the winning proposals.

“These projects exemplify the unbreakable link between economic development and higher education that is critical in developing not only groundbreaking research but product commercialization,” said Lieutenant Governor Lee Fisher, who also serves as Director of the Ohio Department of Development.
