Obama Signed Funding Measure Aids Clean Coal Technologies — WVU Gains $2.45 Million

Byrd, (D-W.Va.), today applauded President Obama’s signature of the FY 2010 Energy and Water Development Appropriations bill which includes funding to aid in the further development of clean coal technologies. Byrd, who was instrumental in helping to secure the funding as the senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, said that ”President Obama’s support for capital improvements, totaling $20 million, at the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) in Morgantown and Pittsburgh is a shot in the arm for enhancing the research and development opportunities of clean coal technologies.”

The FY 2010 Energy and Water Development Appropriations bill that was signed into law by the President includes $672 million for the Fossil Energy Research and Development program within the Department of Energy.  Much of this work is also conducted through NETL in Morgantown. The work supports high risk research on ways to utilize coal, natural gas, and oil in an environmentally friendly and cost-effective manner.  Click here to keep reading…
