Appropriations: House Approves CR, Along With Three FY09 Bills And Extras

(CongressDaily September 25, 2008) The House approved a more than $600 billion continuing resolution package Wednesday, 370-58, that would fund the federal government through March 6, fund three FY09 appropriations bills and provide $22.9 billion for disaster relief.

The bill is expected to be taken up by the Senate this week. “We are debating a CR today because we did not complete the appropriations process,” House Majority Leader Hoyer said on the floor. Read more

Department of Defense Awards $5.8 Million Contract Modification Providing Additional Funding for PharmAthene’s Protexia(R) Program

Faculty salary gains continue to lag behind bigger increases for administrators, football coaches

(Chemical & Engineering News, July 14, 2008) The American Association of University Professors’ (AAUP) survey of the economic status of the academic profession in 2007–08 reports an average salary increase over the previous academic year of 5.1% for what it calls continuing faculty—those who were employed full time at the same institution both years. This figure best approximates the raise an average faculty member received for this academic year, although it does include the effect of promotions. Read more

Federal Funding for UC Labs to Help Bring Clean Energy Technology to the Marketplace

(Daily Californian September 2, 2008) Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and two other labs partly managed by the University of California have been selected to receive $2.5 million from the Department of Energy to commercialize post-research energy ideas, officials announced Monday. The Berkeley lab will receive nearly $1.5 million, while Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Los Alamos National Laboratory will receive close to $500,000 and $600,000, respectively.
