2012 BAA Proposed Research on Oil Spill Response Operations – The U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement , solicits White Papers for specific areas of interest to the BSEE Oil Spill Response Research (OSRR) Program which includes oil spill planning, preparedness, containment, monitoring, recovery, treatment, and response in the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). When appropriate, the research shall be conducted consistent with prior research. The NGA mission is to provide timely, relevant, and accurate geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) in support of national security objectives. GEOINT is the exploitation and analysis of imagery and geospatial information to describe, assess and visually depict physical features and geographically referenced activities on the Earth. Applied Research and Development in Forensic Science for Criminal Justice Purposes – With this solicitation, NIJ seeks proposals for applied research and development projects that will: (1) increase knowledge or understanding necessary to guide forensic science policy and practice or (2) result in the production of useful materials, devices, systems, or methods that have the potential for forensic application. The intent of the Applied Research and Development in Forensic Science for Criminal Justice Purposes Program is to direct the findings of basic scientific research, research and development in broader scientific fields applicable to forensic science, and ongoing forensic science research toward the development of highly discriminating, accurate, reliable, cost-effective, and rapid methods for the identification, analysis, and interpretation of physical evidence for criminal justice purposes. Application: April 20, 2012.
In fiscal year 2011, NIJ provided over $17 million in grants to fund research and development projects related to forensic science, including DNA. NIJ funding for an individual research or development project rarely exceeds $500,000 annually, although total funding for projects requiring multiple years to complete has exceeded $1 million in some cases. In FY 2011, the average forensic science research and development award size was approximately $223,000 per year, and the average project period was 2 years.
