New Measurement Capabilities to Enable Nanoscale Manipulation and Magnetic Imaging of the Next Generation of Magnetic Materials and Patterned Devices — NIST has a requirement for modifications to the Scanning Electron Microscopy with Polarization Analysis (SEMPA) tool in the Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology (CNST). The SEMPA tool is a JEOL 7830F Auger microprobe that has been modified to enable secondary electron spin polarization measurements using custom spin polarization analyzers developed at NIST.
One of the primary missions of CNST is to support industry in the development and characterization of future electronics.
SEMPA plays a key role in characterizing future electronics based on nanoscale magnetism. Read more

ROA 2010: B.9 Atmospheric Environment Safety Technologies (AEST) – This ROA NASA NRA solicits fundamental research proposals for the five programs within ARMD: the Airspace Systems Program, the Aviation Safety Program, the Fundamental Aeronautics Program, the Integrated Systems Research Program, and the Aeronautics Test Program. The Airspace Systems Program will directly address the Air Traffic Management (ATM) research needs of the Next Generation Air Transportation Systems (NextGen) initiative as defined by the Joint Planning and Development Office (JPDO). The Aviation Safety Program will take a proactive approach to safety challenges with new and current vehicles operating in the Nation’s current and future air transportation system. Read more

The most important technical considerations will focus on existing full vehicle level blast mitigating systems (as opposed to individual systems), which may include but are not limited to, underbody shaping, cab stiffness, energy absorbing interior crew floor, blast mitigating seats, and any other existing mitigating technologies.
